The solar system

Updated: May 17

This is a simple activity that only requires a couple of cardboard boxes and A good old youtube video. We decorated a cardboard box to look like a rocket ship. We used egg cartons to make the control panel and covered in tin foil. Tin foil was a massive hit with Finley, one, it's easy to shape around things and two, it's shiny so it defiantly helps with the space look!

We also decorated the planets in our solar system and the sun. We hung them up and learned their placement in space. Starting from the sun and moving outwards.

We also tried to block as much sunlight as possible coming through and set some appropriate mood lighting. It didn't work amazingly but you could do this when the sun goes down instead of in the daylight.

Here's a link to the youtube song we played. It's a great song, especially for younger children to learn about the different planets. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQrlgH97v94 and best of all they get to do it from their own rocket ship!
